Birds, Halos, and a Bowhead Whale: Journal Notes from Arctic Ocean 2002
Responsible organisation
2010 (English)Other (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
Abstract [en]

This report contains an account of natural history observation from the Swedish expedition "Arctic Ocean 2002" that investigated Fram Strait and East Greenland Sea in early spring 2002. As the waters of the area are covered with thick ice well into summer, this is one of the few expeditions that has visited these waters in spring. The report mainly gives accounts of bird observations that have never been done previously, but also of a remarkable halo display and a rare observation of a Bowhead Whale. It also describes life onboard in general.
