During the Swedish cultural science expedition to Spitsbergen SWEDARCTIC 2000, among others, we visited the remains ofmeteorological stations established during the First International Polar Year (1882-83), for the use of airship travels in the Arctic (1912-14) and to serve German weather prediction during World War II (1942-45). Besides the history of these stations, their present conditions are also reported. Adescription of the cultural heritage programme at Spitsbergen is given in the end.
